What is a Farm Passport?
The Farm Passport is a way to discover Georgia by visiting participating farms and getting your passport stamped! By doing this, you can earn different prizes depending on how many stamps are collected, incentivizing travel to as many farms as possible (Georgia Farm Bureau).
Prizes
Proof in the Passport
The Georgia State Parks Passport is a way to document one's journey through all of Georgia's parks and historic sites. By registering one's passport with the Friends of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites, participants will have access to fun challenges, special events, discounts and passport rewards (sticker challenges) (“Georgia State Parks Passport”).
This indicates a strong baseline for outdoor-incentive programs. The Georgia State Parks Passport initiative covers 64 sites and uses a documentation model to drive engagement (Georgia Department of Natural Resources). Because of the successful reward program with the Georgia State Parks, it expresses a potential for similar success for farm visits, stamps, and prizes with social media promotion.
Growing the Farm Passport Program
Instagram focuses on young adults who value authentic and aesthetic experiences. Short reels and photo stories will highlight peaceful farm stays, local foods, and weekend escapes that inspire relaxation and connection with nature. The goal is to show that Georgia’s rural destinations offer real beauty away from city life.
Facebook content targets parents, families, and older adults who enjoy travel planning and traditional experiences. Posts and short videos will feature family outings, farm festivals, and scenic getaways. This group is encouraged to visit rural Georgia to reconnect with loved ones and create lasting memories together.
On TikTok, content will appeal to teens and young adults looking for fun, shareable adventures. Quick clips of fruit picking, local challenges, or outdoor adventures will capture attention and inspire spontaneous trips. The goal is to show that unplugging from the city can still be exciting and social.
Snapchat focuses on interactive, real-time experiences for a younger audience. Behind-the-scenes snaps from farms, festivals, and nature trails will encourage users to explore and share what they see. The content promotes curiosity and connection while enjoying time outdoors with friends.

Bringing the Georgia Farm Passport to Life Online!
Farming New Connections 🌱
The project’s second component includes expanding the Farm Passport Program by attempting to include farms that are not currently part of the program. This gives underrepresented farms greater exposure and helps boost their local engagement and income.
Growing Awareness, One Post at a Time
Across all platforms, our goal is to inspire people to step away from city life and enjoy Georgia’s rural beauty. Younger audiences may seek fun, shareable adventures, while older ones may plan family trips and lasting memories. Through the Georgia Farm Passport, visitors are encouraged to explore multiple farms, connect with nature, and support local communities.
RSI: Seeding Rural Opportunity
The project's goal to spread awareness of underrepresented farms by working to include them in the Farm Passport Program is a campaign that seeks to promote "diversity and inclusion in all forms" (Georgia College & State University).
RSI Mission
Ethical Groundwork...
Our main priority with this project is to ensure we avoid redundancy with the current Georgia Farm Bureau content. The goal is to highlight new rural locations and share their unique stories and experiences with the public. Furthermore, we want to make sure our project provides an authentic and balanced coverage of all featured farms by expressing their history, attractions, and culture. By mantaining transparency about which farms are part of the Passport program, we can ensure accuracy and prevent the spread of misinformation about the initiative.
The Fruit of our Efforts...
This project benefits the RSI and its community by increasing awareness of rural attractions through promotion of the Farm Passport Program on social media platforms. This would target a wide variety of audiences and we also will campaign (using Genially) to include overlooked farms into the program as well. This fosters economic development and spreads awareness of the sights and sounds rural Georgia has to offer, actively redefining the perception of rural. Ultimately, our project’s purpose is to “get the word out” about south rural Georgia by utilizing the Farm Passport Program as a means of showcasing how these locations are not just places on the map, but experiences worth discovering!
Questions?
This project directly develops the RSI’s community based engagement approach, where the RSI specifically states how they “leverage a diverse network spanning academia, community organizations...to tackle rural disparities through…innovative development strategies” (“Mission”). Furthermore, it aids the problem of the impoverished Black Belt Georgia. By having consumers that are willing to pay for goods and services in south rural Georgia, it will stimulate the economy and slowly break up the persistent poverty affecting those areas. Moreover, promoting these local areas not only supports the local economy and farmers, but preserves their history and culture by introducing it to others.
