ADHD Isn’t About “Attention Deficit” — It’s About Attention Regulation

ADHD Can Be a Creativity Powerhouse

ADHD Affects Emotional Processing and Time Perception

back

ADHD impacts the brain’s executive functions, which means emotions can feel more intense and immediate (“rejection sensitivity” is common), and time can feel non-linear — known as “time agnosia.” Deadlines often feel either now or not now.

Despite the name, people with ADHD don’t lack attention — they often hyperfocus on what interests them and struggle to regulate focus on less stimulating tasks. It’s not a deficit, it’s a dysregulation of attention driven by brain chemistry and dopamine levels.

Many people with ADHD show enhanced divergent thinking, meaning they generate more original ideas and connections. Studies show they’re often natural innovators — thriving in fast-paced, idea-driven environments where flexibility is valued.
