OBJECTIVES

Learn how to marry and un-marry a barcode to an RFID chip

Understand how to apply and remove RFID chips from garments

Identify the equipment and process needed to marry garments

Before We Begin...

True or False: CAs can help the sorting process by attaching Main Batch forms to soiled garments and understanding the color dot system.
FALSE
TRUE

CORRECT!

CAs can help the sorting process by attaching Main Batch forms to soiled garments and understanding the color dot system.

RFID Chips

For garments to be processed in the IFSort system, RFID chips must be married (or linked) to their corresponding barcodes.

If the RFID chip is not married, the garment information will not be associated with it, making the garment impossible to track.

For garments that do not have an RFID chip, you must first follow the process to attach the proper chip and barcode to the garment using the designated heat-sealing equipment and settings.

How to Apply the RFID Chip

Use a heat sealer to attach the RFID chip and barcode to the garment. The heat sealer should be set to:

Temperature: 400° F

Cycle time: 10 Seconds

Air Pressure: 85 PSI

Place the shiny side of the chip against the garment, then position an ImageFIRST tag on top of it. Seal the chip in the same manner as a barcode.

Before We Continue...

To what temperature should the heat sealer be set?
450° F
400° F
350° F

CORRECT!

The heat sealer should be set at 400°F.

Equipment Needed

You need the following equipment to marry garments:

Computer

Datamars Reader

Antenna

Barcode Scanner

ImageFIRST Tapes to go over chips

RFID Chips

The Marrying Station is configured differently from the IFSORT stations. To marry garments, the Reader must be set up as a keyboard input, which requires a license key provided by Datamars.

How to Marry Garments

Go to O6.2.2 RFID Assignment.

Open CCS

Once the screen is cleard, the garment is now married.

Married

Once the barcode information loaded into CCS, wave the RFID over the antenna.

Wave

Scan the barcode on the garment.

Scan

When marrying a garment to an RFID chip, ensure there are no other chips near the antenna. This prevents the garment from being associated with the wrong chip.

Before We Continue...

What should you do once the barcode information loaded into CCS?
Replace the chip with a new one
Wave the RFID over the antenna
Nothing

CORRECT!

Once the barcode information loaded into CCS, wave the RFID over the antenna. Once the screen is cleard, the garment is now married.

Removing an RFID Chip

You will need to “unmarry” or remove the RFID chip from the barcode in the following situations:

The garment was mistakenly married to the wrong RFID

The garment is being reused and must be remarried to a new barcode. (Note: If the garment was placed 'Out of Service,' it will already be unmarried.)

This process must be completed in CCS, within the same location where garments are married (O6.2.2).

How to Remove an RFID Chip

Go to O6.2.2 RFID Assignment.

Open CCS

Click on 'Remove RFID,' then click on 'Clear.' You can now remarry the garment.

Remove Chip

Your screen will look like this:

Review

Scan the barcode on the garment and click 'Enter.'

Scan

Example

Before We Continue...

Within CCS, where can the process of marrying or un-marrying an RFID chip be completed?
O6.2.2
O6.20
O6.1.2

CORRECT!

To assign or unassign an RFID chip to a garment, you must navigate to the O6.2.2 section within CCS.

Garments With No RFID Chips

If you encounter a garment with no RFID chip, check other garments from the same account to see if they have chips. If they do, put a chip on the garment and re-marry it.

If the garment is not intended to have a chip (e.g., items from an imaging center), you must follow steps to manually sort them and scan them into CCS.

ALL garment must be Scanned In before they are Scanned Out. And ALL garments must be Scanned In and Out before they leave our plant for delivery.

How to Handle Unchipped Items

For garments that are not chipped, fold them as usual and set them aside.

Fold

Go to O6.1.4. Garment Scan Out and scan garments out. Items are now ready to be wrapped for delivery.

Scan Out (CCS)

Go to O6.1.3. Garment Scan In and scan the garments in using the correct pick-up date.

Scan In (CCS)

Manually sort these items by route, account, and size/man number.

Sort

Before We Continue...

What is the best practice when handling garments with no RFID chip?
Skip scanning since there is not RFID chip
Scan all garments out after delivery
Scan items in and out before delivery

CORRECT!

ALL garment must be scanned in before they are scanned out. And ALL garments must be scanned in and out before they leave our plant for delivery.
