Welcome to Yellowstone National Park
History of Protecting Populations

Yellowstone National Park, covering parts of the states of Wyoming (96% of the park), Montana, and Idaho , is the first in the U.S. and the world. Established in 1872 by President Ulysses S. Grant, Yellowstone is a diverse ecosystem with many living and non-living factors.

After becoming president in 1901, Teddy Roosevelt used his authority to protect wildlife and public lands by creating the U.S. Forest Service and establishing national forests, bird reserves, game preserves, parks, and monuments through the 1906 Antiquities Act. He protected about 230 million acres of land.

We will play a review game together in class now, however, if you are in 'virtual land' - There will be a link in the lesson for you to complete a review on your own!
Click to learn more about Old Faithful

Old Faithful erupts more frequently than any of the other big geysers...It is believed this regularity is in part due to no known connection with other hydrothermal features in the area. Its average interval between eruptions is about 90 minutes. An eruption lasts 1.5 to 5 minutes and expels 3,700–8,400 gallons of boiling water, and reaches a height of 106–184 feet. Old Faithful Geyser has an average temperate of 169.7°F.
