DEFINTION
CHARACTERISTICS
Employee burnout is a state of physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged stress and overwork, often resulting in reduced motivation and performance. At PIH, burnout may appear when staff are deeply committed to our mission but lack adequate time, resources, or support to balance their responsibilities, maintain well-being, and sustain motivation over time.
- Emotional Exhaustion: Feeling depleted, overwhelmed, or unable to recover energy
- Reduced Effectiveness: Decreased sense of accomplishment or efficacy at work
- Disconnection or Cynicism: A loss of engagement or empathy toward one’s work or colleagues
