Service

Serving others

What does it mean to be of service to others?

Serving means doing things for others. They call me Serving Seok because I volunteer my time to help others. I also serve at school and at home.

Hey! I am one of the Character Kids. My name is Seok, but people call me Serving Seok. Serving is very important to me. Do you know what it means to serve?

Meet Mahatma Gandhi

You learned about Mahatma Gandhi in a previous lesson. Do you remember where he was from?

What can you learn from Gandhi about service?

India became a free country again, and Gandhi inspired future world leaders. Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela wanted to serve their people and lead in peace like Gandhi did.

That's right! Gandhi was from India. During his time, England ruled India. When he was young, Gandhi went to England to study the law and become a lawyer.

Subtítulo

When Gandhi came back to India, he saw how people were treated, and he knew it was not right. He started thinking more about others than himself. Gandhi dedicated his time and energy to serving others and to making India free again.

Gandhi was put in jail four different times for speaking up for the Indian people. He put himself before others and became a national hero.

He learned how to spin cotton so he could make his own clothes. He started teaching others the same. Soon, Indians were no longer buying English clothes--they were making their own. This was a peaceful action that helped India become free again
