Definition & Purpose
Coronal polishing removes plaque and stains from the coronal surfaces of teeth using a low-speed handpiece with a rubber cup and prophy paste.
Legal Requirements & Safety
- State-approved course required
- Dentist supervision needed
- Always wear PPE: gloves, mask, eyewear, gown
- Follow infection control and sterilization protocols
The Importance of PPE (Dental Assistant)
Dental Assistants wear PPE to protect themselves and others from exposure to saliva, blood, and airborne germs during procedures. PPE includes: Gloves – prevent cross-contamination Masks – protect from splatter and aerosols Gown – shields skin and clothing Protective eyewear/face shield – guards eyes from debris and fluids
The Importance of PPE (Patient Protection)
Patients also need PPE for safety during dental procedures. This includes: Eye protection – goggles or safety glasses to shield eyes from splatter or debris Protective bib or drape – covers the chest and neck to prevent contact with fluids
