HISTORY OF PRESENT ILLNESS
Albert, 8 y.o. Caucasian male, presents with mother and father at 02:00 pm for dental trauma.
Per mother and father, the patient became ill in the middle of the night, experiencing nausea and vomiting. Per the parents, the patient had consumed a large quantity of pizza slides and candy prior to the onset of symptoms, which led to abdominal discomfort. The patient then attempted to go to the parents' bedroom but lost balance, falling and striking his face on the corner of the bedframe. Both parents were asleep at the time and woke up to ask the patient what happened and he said he lost balance and tripped. They provided a washcloth to place in his mouth and returned to sleep.
Upon waking in the morning, the parents noted that the situation appeared more severe than initially thought. The patient was taken to the urgent care clinic in Trussville, AL, where he was referred to the Emergency Department at Children’s of Alabama (COA) for further evaluation and management. The patient was wheeled to Clinic 9 as the nurse had administered Versed for sedation prior to stitching.
The incident happened around 06:30 am.
