REEVALUATE

EVALUATE BEFORE PLACEMENT

GATHER INFORMATION

TEAM DECISION

FAIR ASSESSMENT

Schools must evaluate your child before deciding on placement or services, and again before any major change

Assessments must be valid, properly administered, and appropriately selected under Section 504 rules

Schools must consider multiple sources—tests, teacher input, health records, and parent observations

Students must be reevaluated periodically (usually every 3 years), and parents must be notified before any action

A 504 committee must make placement decisions, aiming to include disabled students with their peers

Why do you think students should have the right to see their own school records?

Why is it important for teachers to treat all students fairly and with respect?

Why is it important for schools to give extra help to students with disabilities?
