Abortion:

• the deliberate termination of a pregnancy by removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus

Fetus

• an offspring of a human or other mammal in the stages of prenatal development that follow the embryo stage (in humans taken as beginning eight weeks after conception)

Fetal Viability

• the point at which a fetus can survive outside the womb

TYPES OF ABORTION

Uses medication (pills) to end a pregnancy. It is usually done up to 10–12 weeks and can be done at home under medical supervision.

A medical procedure performed by a doctor in a clinic or hospital to remove the pregnancy from the uterus. Usually done after 10–12 weeks.
