Costa Rica

Costa Rica has tons of animals and plants—about 5% of all the world’s species live there. The country doesn’t have an army. It uses that money for schools and hospitals instead. Almost all of its electricity comes from clean energy like water, wind, and volcanoes. People in Costa Rica often live long, healthy lives—especially in a region called the Nicoya Peninsula. “Pura Vida,” meaning “pure life,” is a popular saying that shows how much Costa Ricans enjoy life.

Belize

Belize is the only country in Central America where people speak English as the main language. Lots of people also speak Spanish, Creole, and Mayan languages. It has more than 900 ancient Mayan ruins, showing how the Mayan people lived long ago. Belize is famous for the Belize Barrier Reef, part of the second-largest barrier reef system in the world. The Great Blue Hole is a huge underwater sinkhole in Belize that many people like to dive in and explore. Belize is home to the world's first jaguar nature preserve where these big cats and other wild animals are protected.

Nicaragua

Nicaragua is the biggest country in Central America. It has lots of lakes and 24 volcanoes, so people call it the "Land of Lakes and Volcanoes." Lake Nicaragua is special because it’s one of the few freshwater lakes where bull sharks can live. Most people in Nicaragua are called Nicas and have mixed Native American and Spanish backgrounds. Nicaragua had the first woman president in the Americas, named Violeta Barrios de Chamorro. Farming is important in Nicaragua, growing things like coffee, bananas, and sugar. It’s also working on a big canal to connect oceans like the Panama Canal.
