Bins in the OR Suite

  • Supply items that can be reprocessed (except tourniquets) should be put in the reprocessing bin
    • Staplers are not reprocessed — wrap these in a table cover or drape and discard in regular trash
    • Tourniquets are placed on the case cart for reprocessing
    • Place reprocessing bins far away from anesthesia

  • No bins should overflow (get a replacement container)

TecSys Point of Use

  • Appropriately allocating and charging of medical supplies affects healthcare costs, accounting for 30 to 40 percent of the total costs a hospital incurs
  • TecSys Point of Use is a tracking and inventory system to help us:
    • Control inventory costs
    • Accurately capture charges for reimbursement
    • Track inventory, improving the reordering process
  • TecSys is accessed from the Intra-Op chart in eStar/Epic

TecSys Point of Use

  • Save all supplies packaging so usage is recorded accurately in TecSys
    • Items entered in the system are not necessarily charged to the patient -- charges are filtered out in the Billing department
    • Not recording usage accurately affects reordering for the items you use -- not saving packaging can mess up inventory and cause you to run out of supplies you need
  • Make sure implants are in the OR before the patient rolls back
  • The circulator must record storage temperature and time out of storage for tissue implants in TecSys
    • If you retrieve a tissue implant, always make note of these pieces of information for documentation purposes
