What does it mean to be determined?

Another way to describe determination is not giving up. I am called Determined Derek because I do not give up, even when things become difficult.

A president's term is four years. Washington served as president for two terms, so he was president for eight years in total. The people wanted him to continue to be the president because he was so good at it. But Washington was loyal to his belief that America should not have someone in power for too long. He believed that would make a president more like a king, which they had in England before the United States became independent. Instead, he wanted the government to be better in the United States. George Washington was always loyal to his beliefs.

Our nation's capital, Washington, D.C., is named after George Washington. You can also remember Washington and his loyalty every time you see a $1 bill.

Martin was also determined to help things change peacefully. Like Gandhi, he believed in non-violence. He used his words and peaceful demonstrations to share his beliefs with others.

Do you know how I became the Character Kid for determination? I did it by never giving up. You can learn to be determined too! Click the choice that shows determination for each situation below.

Phenomenal! You don't give up, which means you have determination. Never give up and you, too, can be a Character Kid!

You try it!

Would you like to learn a new skill?

What is a skill that you have always wanted to learn? For example, you could learn how to juggle. Working on a new skill takes a lot of determination. Remember to not give up! You know the saying "practice makes perfect." Stay determined, and work hard until you can perform the new skill. I know you can do it!
