The capacity to focuse the mind o one object of concetration for as long as desired.
" Meditation is sustained concentration, whereby the attention continues to hold or repeat the same object or place." (III, Sutra 2)
The difference between dharana (intentional single-pointed concentration) & dhyana is effort. Dhyana is the state of effortless meditation (when you find yourself in a natural state of meditation). Dharana sets the stage for the spontaneity and ease of dhyana.
