It's November so there may be some adverse weather!

What you'll be doing

Guide and Direct

Your Role

You will be assigned a role such as checking tickets, maintaining a perimeter, or walking the crowd. You'll be given specific direction for your role beforehand or at the briefing.

Know where exits, toilets, first aid, and disabled viewing areas are located. You will be shown at the briefing. Direct the public with a smile.

First and foremost your role is to help our customers stay safe and enjoy the evening.

If you need help

  • Find an Orange Jacket marshal or SIA Security guard - they will have a radio
  • Control tent phone number: 07307 890 708
  • Please ensure you have this number saved. You will be given a yellow card with it on too.
  • Send for help - use a member of the public if necessary
  • If in doubt, call it in
  • For your safety, and the safety of our guests stay in pairs

Lost Children

Look out for unaccompanied children or vulnerable adults.

  • If an adult becomes aware that a child or vulnerable adult (VA) is lost, direct them to the lost children point by the control tent.
  • If you come across a lost child/vulnerable adult, stay with them, ensuring two adults are present with them at all times.
  • Accompany the child/VA to the lost children point.
  • If you have any concerns about the welfare or safety of a child at any time, request help immediately. Be aware that drunken adults may have children in their care.
  • Do not intervene yourself.

Inappropriate Behavior

Inappropriate behavior is subjective, but includes behavior that may make others feel threatened or uncomfortable. If you have concerns, do not intervene yourself. Call for help and let one of our trained staff or security handle the situation.

Examples of inappropriate behaviour include:

Photography of children without adult consent

Aggressive, abusive, threatening or violent behaviour.

Close physical contact

Inappropriate levels of clothing

Stay Safe!

We have people trained to intervene and avoid confrontation.

Stay safe at all times. Do not put yourself in any danger

Call for help rather than intervening

If necessary call the police on 999, and inform us as soon as you can

Trust your instincts. If you are uncomfortable or concerned in any way, let us know

Injuries & First Aid

For major injuries call 999 and then call for first aid from St. John's ambulance.

For minor injuries, we have St. John's Ambulance on site next to the control tent. If the patient can't walk, call for help and they will come to you.

If you are first-aid trained, feel confident and it is safe to do so, go ahead with the ABC (Airway Breathing, Check) and CPR if appropriate. Always call for help first.

Terrorist Incident

Run - to a place of safety. If there’s nowhere to go then… Hide - better to hide than confront. Tell - when it's safe to do so, call 999.

While the chances of being caught up in a terrorist incident remain rare, it is important to be prepared and know how to protect yourself if the need arises.

Be alert to any suspect behavior - if anything doesn't feel right, let us know.

Evacuation

In the unlikely event of an evacuation, the following messages will be broadcasted over the PA system:The "prepare to evacuate" warning:

  • “SAND STORM, SAND STORM, SAND STORM”.
The evacuation signal:
  • “EVACUATE, EVACUATE, EVACUATE”
  • Please direct people to leave immediately
The all clear signal:
  • “ALL CLEAR, ALL CLEAR, ALL CLEAR”

Thank you!

We couldn't run the event without you.

If you find you're not able to attend, please let us know as soon as possible on fireworks@thefifth.org.uk. Your nominated charity will be paid as soon as we can.

Thank you for helping, we really appreciate it. Let us know if there is anything we can do to make the event better for you.
