Reducing infections: Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) in health facilities, and a focus on nutrition and vaccinations.
Effective IPC measures reduce the spread of resistant infections in hospital settings and should be tailored to address emerging drug-resistant infections – such as Klebsiella, Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), E.Coli.
UHC initiatives that improve IPC measures, diagnostics, surveillance systems to track and guide prescription protocols, and health worker competencies are critical levers to mitigate AMR.
Improved nutrition and vaccination protocols to prevent infections, national standardized IPC guidelines, adequate PPE and containment measures, sustained healthcare workforce training and education on general IPC and targeted IPC, biosecurity and husbandry enhancements, and improved WASH in hospital settings – are some key action areas for IPC.
Regular IPC audits and WASH infrastructure upgrades in public hospitals; dedicated IPC budgets for hospitals.
