Patience
Meet Patient Pablo!
When you are patient, you stay calm, even in situations you don't like. I am called Patient Pablo because I am patient with others and myself. There is someone in history who is also known for being patient.
What does it mean to be patient?
Hola! That is how you say hello in Spanish. I am one of the Character Kids. My name is Pablo, but people call me Patient Pablo. Patience is very important to me. Do you know what it means to be patient?
Patient Nelson Mandela
I would like to tell you about Nelson Mandela. He was from South Africa. During his life, South Africa had a law of apartheid. This meant that South Africans with nonwhite skin were separated from South Africans with white skin. They were not given equal rights. Nelson Mandela knew this was wrong, and he wanted equal rights for everyone.
Why is Nelson Mandela known for being patient?
In 1990, other countries had put pressure on the South African government, and Nelson Mandela was let out of prison. He continued to work hard for apartheid to end. After many years of waiting patiently for things to change, all South Africans were allowed to vote in the 1994 election. And guess who became the new president?
Nelson Mandela started fighting for equal rights, and he was put in prison for 27 years. He was very patient during this time. He would not change his beliefs even if he would be allowed out of jail. He wanted all South Africans to have equal rights.
