The origins of Siero date back to the Middle Ages, with the first written mention in 905, when King Alfonso III donated the church of San Martín de Siero. Its development as a municipality was consolidated in 1270 with the granting of its town charter by Alfonso X "The Wise," a milestone that granted population and rights to the inhabitants of the area.

Siero is a municipality located in the central area of Asturias, bordering to the north with Gijón, to the east with Villaviciosa, Sariego, Nava and Bimenes, to the south with Langreo and San Martín del Rey Aurelio, and to the west with Oviedo and Llanera.
