In the extract, the writer uses a lot of descriptive language to describe the Tyrannosaurus Rex. The writer says, "It came on great oiled, resilient, striding legs. It towered thirty feet above half of the trees, a great evil god, folding its delicate watchmaker’s claws close to its oily reptilian chest." This shows how big and powerful the dinosaur is. The writer also describes its legs as "a piston, a thousand pounds of white bone, sunk in thick ropes of muscle, sheathed over in a gleam of pebbled skin like the armour of a terrible warrior." This makes the reader imagine the dinosaur as very strong and scary.

Up-level task. Improve the paragraph by:

  • Use terminlogy, such as simile or metaphor.
  • Using short quotes
  • Analyse the connotations and effect of specific words.
  • Work on your target area
