Kindness
Meet kind Kimmie
What does it mean to be kind?
Hi! I am one of the Character Kids. My name is Kimmie, but people call me Kind Kimmie. Kindness is very important to me. Do you know what it means to be kind?
Kind mother Teresa
I am sure you remember meeting George Washington. He was the first president of the United States of America. He helped our country become independent. But did you also know that he was a very loyal person? Here are a few examples of how George Washington showed loyalty.
Why is mother Teresa known for being kind?
At the age of 18, Mother Teresa became a nun and started teaching in a country far from home at a girl's school in India. She wanted to help poor girls get an education.

Subtítulo
Mother Teresa spent her life giving her time and energy to the poor. She was kind to everyone she met. She helped many people in India. She also inspired others to volunteer to help the sick and the poor in India.
Mother Teresa received many awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize, but that's not why she was kind. She did kind things for the people and for her faith.
One day, while riding a train in India, she felt inspired to go to the slums, or very poor areas, of a city in India called Calcutta. She wanted to help the poorest people. Her goal was to help the "unwanted, the unloved, and the uncared for."
Mother Teresa set up a school and a place for people who were dying. Then, she created an orphanage, so children without parents would have a place to stay. She also set up a place for sick people to get care and a nursing home for old people.
Do you know how I became the Character Kid for kindness? I did it by always being kind to others, and you can, too! Click the kind choice for each of these situations.
Wonderful! You know how to be a kind person! Your friends and family are blessed to know you. Remember, kindness first and you, too, can be a Character Kid!
Start a club!
Try this optional activity to show kindness.
What other things can you do to show kindness? You can start a Kindness Club in your classroom or with your family. Club members can do random acts of kindness and report back on what they did. You can even create some art to display the kind things your club did. For example, make a Kindness Tree. Write the acts of kindness on leaves, and watch the tree grow! The famous pilot Amelia Earhart said, "A single act of kindness throws out roots in all directions, and the roots spring up and make new trees." That means that when you are kind to others, they will want to do kind things, too. Kindness keeps growing, just like trees!
