Loyal George Washington
I am sure you remember meeting George Washington. He was the first president of the United States of America. He helped our country become independent. But did you also know that he was a very loyal person? Here are a few examples of how George Washington showed loyalty.
Why is the first U.S. president known for being loyal?
When George Washington was asked to be the commander of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, he did not want to be paid. He said he would keep track of expenses, but he did not want money for serving in this role. Washington was very loyal to the fight for independence. He cared more about his beliefs than getting money.

A president's term is four years. Washington served as president for two terms, so he was president for eight years in total. The people wanted him to continue to be the president because he was so good at it. But Washington was loyal to his belief that America should not have someone in power for too long. He believed that would make a president more like a king, which they had in England before the United States became independent. Instead, he wanted the government to be better in the United States. George Washington was always loyal to his beliefs.
Our nation's capital, Washington, D.C., is named after George Washington. You can also remember Washington and his loyalty every time you see a $1 bill.
Washington was known for being loyal to his family and friends, and everyone was loyal to him, too. He was voted for unanimously, which means everyone in the Electoral College voted for him to be the first president.
