Introduction to Mark Certificates
How do Mark Certificates work?
Brand Indicators for Message Identification (BIMI) is the technology behind the use of Mark Certificates. BIMI is an email standard that lets email providers display a company's logo next to their emails.
https://bimigroup.org/
BIMI works in two parts:
- Publishing Brand Indicators via DNS TXT record containing information about their logo and how to verify.
- Verifying the Indicators to check the TXT record and verify the logo using a Mark Certificate that confirms the company owns the trademark for the logo. If it checks out, the recipient's inbox will display the company's logo.
For the logo to be displayed, the email must pass DMARC checks to ensure it actually came from the company it claims to be from.
