What is it? A process for identifying biological hazards, analysing risks, and implementing measures to control them.
STAGE 1
Identify hazards
- Biological agent hazard - Activities and environmental conditions - Hosts and staff training
STAGE 2
Assess risks
Evaluate the likelihood of release or exposure to a biological agent and the severity of the consequences
STAGE 3
Risk control
Implement technical (ventilation, physical barriers) and organisational measures (protocols, training) to ensure an acceptable level of risk
STAGE 4
Review risks and measures
Periodic reviews (inspections) of working conditions and updates to the assessment following any changes are required.
The aim is to reduce the biological risk to an acceptable level, protecting people's health and the environment.
