INTRODUCTION
How can we plan and host a cultural food festival that celebrates diversity and builds community at our school?
For this project, you will develop your own presentation based on information you have learned about at least 3 different cultures types of food. You are able to work with 2 other peers, and you will need to research the cultures you choose thoroughly and be comfortable enough with the information to make a presentation with your group mates at the end of class tomorrow.
YOUR TASK FOR THIS PROJECT
Please choose two peers to complete this assignment with. Once the group is chosen, please come up with 3 cultures you all would like to research. (Think of some of your favorite things you like to eat, find where those receipes originated from.) Once you all have chosen your 3 cultures, research at least one meal that that culture makes for special occasions in their culture. Explain why this meal is special to them, what all it takes to make this dish, and what the preperation is to make this dish. Be sure to add if this dish needs more than one person to complete it, if it needs more than an hour or so to make it, and what is best paired with this meal. Once you have all of the needed information for all 3 of your cultures, make a presentation and review it as a group. Once you all feel confident in your power point being finished, come see me and I will check your work and give you some feedback! After I have given you feedback and you have made the changes to your work, you will present your project to the class. I know you all will do wonderfully! Good luck!

The fun part
You thought I was going tot make this a boring task didn't you?? I want you to choose what type of presentation you create. It could be powerpoint, poster, a fun video, a handout for each student with some Q & A from your group, etc! You choose the best way to create the information you learn on your 3 cultures into any type of presentation! Also, you all choose how to get the information you're learning, who in the group does what in the project, and if you will use all the information you learned or just some! I cannot wait to see what you create and what you have learned.
Watch videos, read articles, watch documentaries, etc.
Choose the best presentation type for YOU!
Every group member has a job, you all choose which job goes to who!
Choose how you want to teach the information you learned to the class.
Will you use all the information you learned, or just some? It's up to YOU!
Choose how you learn the information from your cultures!
Time to Research
Genially
As I stated before, you choose how to research the 3 cultures you and your group decided on! Choose at least one meal that the cultures make or have at special events, and provide detailed information that is listed in the directions! Please make sure to jot down all your research on a piece of paper or in Google Docs so I am able to see what you have found, and you and your peers can have something to reference to during the making of your presentation.
Teamwork makes the dreamwork
YAY!
Even though I have allowed you to work in groups, please know you will recieve an overall group grade, and then an individual grade once you all have completed presenting your presentation to the class. All peers will have the opportunity to "rate" those in their group. This "rating" will need to be completely HONEST! This will allow me to know exactly how much you were willing to do to help build this presentation with your classmates, and will help me make sure I do not give certain points to people if they did not help. Working in a group, it is important that you all work together and you all take on the same workload. No one should be working more than another! TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAMWORK!!
LET me help you
seriously, I am here to help
As your teacher, I am here to make sure you understand and are working to your fullest potential. When I say I am here to help, that does not mean I am here to pick apart your presentation. I am here to help make sure the presentation moves smoothly, that you have the information you need, and to answer any questions you may have. Afterall, I want you to get a good grade just as much as you want that good grade! SO, let ME help YOU!! Together you can achieve that A, and I will be applauding you for your hardwork and understanding of some small construcive criticism!
Reflect on What You Learned
I would not be a caring teacher if I did not ask you to reflect on what you learned. Therefore, at this point, I would like you to make a brief summary of what you have learned from each culture, 4-5 sentences for each culture. This allows you to not only quickly share what you have learned, but it also allows you to truly see what YOU have learned!! That is such a huge deal to have learned things all on your own and I am so proud of you!!
TIme to Present
As you present, please be mindful of your peers timing for their presentations. Also, if you are an observer, please be mindful and respectful of those presenting their projects. As you observe other students projects, take notes to learn a bit more about their cultures!
