Landscaping - Strengthening the Ecosystem

The cliff was evaluated for erosion and plant life in 2025 with the help of The Ohio State University Agricultural & Natural Resource Extension. The west side is largely native staghorn sumac. The eastern side is mostly invasive black locust that is being managed. New landscaping was introduced to improve drainage, reduce erosion, and support native plant life, enhancing both ecology and appearance. This is an ongoing maintenance issue.

Jetty - Protecting the Shoreline

This is a rock structure that interrupts water flow and limits sand movement, trapping it to stabilize the beach. It is considered private property and not maintained by the city. This is not a pier or dock. It is not recommended to walk out onto the rocks. Due to it's age, it is exempt from the current codes and requirements. If we change anything on it, the entire "jetty" has be to updated to code. This is a minimum of $100,000 with a max around $500,000.

Stone Steps - Safer Access to the Beach

In the summer of 2020, new stairs were added to create safer, more accessible pathways to the beach for residents and visitors. Changes to these stairs may require additional permits due to their proximity to the lake. Previously, a rope tether was anchored to the cliffside. Climb at one's own risk!
