Book Time

Let me read The Lost Happy Endings again pausing at the point we stopped reading last time '...scattering bitter tears into the cold black night.'

This is where the witch demanded your Twisted Narrative writing.

Now let's read the next two pages, stopping after reading 'weeping and wailing in their beds.'

A Letter for Parents and Carers

Dear Parents and Carers, Please, please, read every word of this letter as we have some rather important and disturbing news for you. It has come to our attention that all your much-loved bedtime stories’ happy endings have sadly been lost. They no longer exist on the pages of your books. This is a dire, grave situation for all, consequently we warn you to consider the precautions you must take tonight.

Firstly, we would urge you to forgo reading any bedtime stories this evening. We implore you to think for a moment about the considerable emotional impact on your children. Just imagine the damage that could be caused from what will become traumatic storytelling. What will Cinderella do without her prince? What about the death of Snow White? How about eternal slumber for Sleeping Beauty?

Furthermore, we ask you to think of others’ feelings. In class, your children may pass these joyless tales on to their peers if they hear such stories without their endings. Can you imagine their friends’ heartbreak? Worryingly, unhappiness would spread as quickly as the flu, chicken pox and measles. Could you live with that on your conscience?

Once again, we implore you to temporarily cancel bedtime stories for your children. We are very, very concerned about this situation, therefore we beg you to hear the significance of our warnings. The consequences of ignoring them could well be catastrophic. Yours faithfully, The Story Enders
