plate tectonics

Pangaea

all the continents of the world were once one supercontinent, which he called Pangaea .Then Pangaea broke into pieces that drifted apart .

the theory of continental drift

In 1912 the German scientist Alfred Wegener announced an interesting observation about the two continents of Africa and South America.he noticed that the two continents of Africa and south America not only fit exactly together like two pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, but they also contain similar fossils and geological features . this evidence led him to come up with the theory of continental drift .

the theory of plate tectonics

the Earth's crust is made up of plates that move across the Earth's surface the continents sit on these plates and move around with them. The theory of plate tectonics states that the plates of lithosphere move very slowly, floating on the plastic part of the mantle, which contains the magma.

LITHOSPHERE

Plate tectonics is a scientific theory that explains how maior landforms are created as a result of earth's subterranean movements. The tectonic plates are slowly and constantly moving but in many different directions. some are moving toward each other, some are moving apart, and some are grinding past each other. The border between two plates is called a tectonic plate boundary and there are three types of Plate Tectonic boundaries namely divergent, convergent, and transform plate boundares..
