The European Union

The European Union is an economic and political union made up of 27 member states and 24 official languages. It was established on November 1st,1993 through the Maastricht Treaty. However,the history of the European Union begins in 1951. The European Union bases its actions on values ​​such as inclusion, tolerance, justice, solidarity, and non-discrimination, which are shared by its society. Our European way of life is characterized by principles such as freedom, human dignity, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and respect for and promotion of human rights.All of this is also written in the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

The main Institutions

The European Union has seven main institutions: • European Parliament: represents European citizens and works with other institutions to approve laws. • European Council: sets the European Union's political priorities. • Council of the European Union: represents national governments and decides laws. • European Commission: suggests laws, applies decisions, and manages the budget. • Court of Justice: ensures that all European countries and institutions follow the laws correctly • European Central Bank (ECB): manages the euro and monetary policy. • Court of Auditors: checks how the European Union spends its money and makes sure its funds are used correctly
