Monetary gifts are strictly prohibited; non-monetary gifts must be valued under $25 or receive approval.

NBME defines Intellectual Property broadly as any invention, creation, innovation, discovery, improvement, development, concept, design, idea, software, trade secret, confidential information, research data, trademark, service mark, logo, slogan, original work of authorship, or other proprietary materials.

The purpose of this policy is to make employees aware of the primary categories of Intellectual Property that are of concern to NBME and the practices and resources for safeguarding NBME’s Intellectual Property.
Obtain Approval for Outside Work
Employees must obtain prior approval for outside work related to their NBME role to avoid conflicts.
A family member or any person whose relationship to the employee is like that of a family member or significant other.

Disclose Relationships
Employees must disclose any relationships that could potentially create conflicts at work to maintain transparency.
Report Conflicts of Interest
Disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflicts promptly to your manager and Business Unit Leader (i.e. SVP or VP) for transparency.
The policy applies to all employees involved in hiring, supervision, and related employment decision-making roles.
Avoid Accepting Monetary Gifts
Monetary gifts are strictly prohibited; non-monetary gifts must be valued under $25 or receive approval.
Seek Guidance When in Doubt
Consult your manager or HR for advice when unsure about conflicts or ethical concerns.
The policy aims to prevent ouside work from conflicting with NBME duties or reponsibilities.
NBME defines Intellectual Property broadly as any invention, creation, innovation, discovery, improvement, development, concept, design, idea, software, trade secret, confidential information, research data, trademark, service mark, logo, slogan, original work of authorship, or other proprietary materials.

Participants are expected to review all content and complete the acknowledgment in Halogen at the training's conclusion.

Assign All IP to NBME
Remember that all Intellectual Property created during NBME employment belongs to NBME.
All employees creating, using, or accessing NBME intellectual property.
The policy ensures employees prioritize company interests over personal or financial gains to maintain integrity.
The policy applies to all employees involved in outside employment, consulting, speaking, or volunteering.
Outside work is considered side jobs, volunteering, public speaking, and consulting (particularly if they related to your role at NBME).
