This level allows Champions to create psychologically safe spaces and respond with empathy and insight.What it looks like:- Picking up on emotional undercurrents. - Reading the room or team dynamics.- Responding to silence or tension with curiosity.
Level 1: Listening to Self
The focus is on your own thoughts, judgments, and reactions. You’re hearing the other person, but your attention is on how it relates to you.What it looks like:-Missing emotional cues or deeper meaning. -Thinking: “How does this affect me?”. -Responding with personal stories or advice.
Level 2: Listening to the Other
Full attention is on the speaker. You’re listening to their words, tone, and emotions, without inserting your own story. This level builds trust and shows genuine interest, it’s the foundation of coaching conversations.What it looks like:-Asking clarifying questions. -Paraphrasing to confirm understanding. -Noticing shifts in tone or body language.
