Katherine Johnson
Katherine Johnson was a brilliant mathematician who was able to perform complex calculations. She was often called a “human computer” and it was her calculations that made the Apollo 11 mission a success. She helped ensure the astronauts got safely to the Moon and home again.
She faced many obstacles as a woman of color, but her unique talent and unwavering determination made her an irreplaceable asset. She worked at NASA for 33 years and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Obama.
