Waste Not, Want Not

One of Dad’s most treasured phrases: Waste Not, Want Not He says, “When times are hard, kids, that is when you make the most of what you’ve got.

If, when your teddies battle hard, one should lose an eye, don’t let the needle and the thread simply pass you by.

If, when out walking you should lose the upper from your shoe, stitch that shoe back up again and add some cement glue.

If you have games that you don’t need, if you have toys that you’ve outgrown, never throw them out because another child is another home.”

To this day, Dad says, “I treasure things: cheap or expensive, small or big. It’s the way to be, especially if you’ve no money to replace things with.

It’s like I say ten times a day: you’ll be happy with your lot if you follow just these four words: Waste Not, Want Not.”
