Keystone Proficiency Pathway
  • This is the "default" pathway, and many students will automatically meet theAct 158 requirements just by earning a Proficient score on the Keystone Exams
  • Keystone Exams are state-mandated, end-of-course assessments taken by students who complete coursework in Algebra I, Biology, and English Literature (English 10). Proficiency on these exams is one of several pathways students may use to meet Pennsylvania’s graduation requirements.
Who Should Register:
  • Algebra I – Registration will be open to students in grades 10 and 11, as well as select students in grades 9 and 12 who are currently enrolled in Algebra I (quarter 1, quarter 2, or semester 1).
  • Biology – Registration will be open only to students who are retaking the Biology exam to improve their best score calculation.
  • Literature – Registration will be open to students in grades 10 and 11, as well as select students in grades 9 and 12 who are currently enrolled in English 10 (quarter 1, quarter 2, or semester 1)
Alternative Assessment Pathway
  • If you are planning on attending a four-year college or university after high school, check which entrance exams the schools you are interested in accept or require; the most common ones are the SAT and ACT.
  • If you are planning on enlisting in the military after high school, you will need to take the ASVAB. Your scores can be used to enlist for up to two years after the date of testing.

Evidence-Based Pathway
  • Service-Learning Project
A service-learning project, such as one through Boy/Girl Scouts, National Honor Society, a religious youth group, or other organization, must involve a minimum of ten hours and be supervised by an adult who can verify and sign off on the completion of the project. Refer to this application form and contact your school counselor to seek approval for a project: https://tinyurl.com/CCAServiceLearningApp.
  • Internship
An internship is a structured career preparation work experience in which students are placed at a workplace for a semester to observe and participate in work within a given career field. Internships are a great way for high school students to gain valuable, hands-on experience in a real work environment. Students may identify their own host employer or select from a number of pre-identified internship hosts. Contact your teacher to get a referral for a career consulation.
