gorillas and giant pandas, that are rapidly disappearing in the wild. Soon, we may not be albe to see these animals even if we could travel around the world. The animals in zoos represent a wide range of species. Zoos help us learn about these creatures and motivate us to protect them. The 213 zoos approved by the American Zoo and Aquarium Association (AZA) must meet high standards in their displays. These standards ensure that the animals are treated well. In fact, animals often live longer in zoos than they do in the wild. The AZA zoos also support more than 1,400 projects and programs in more than 80 countries. These programs help restore habitat, reduce the hunting of exotic animals, and rehabilitate injured one. Thus, zoos help animals survive in the wild, too. (click to see her conclusion)

Should We Have Zoos?

Lately, some people are questioning whether we should keep animals in zoos. They insist that we're doing this not to protect the animals but to make money from them. After all, more than 90 percent of the mammals in zoos were born there, not captured in the wild. Their only purpose in life is to entertain zoo visitors. Doesn't this mean we are using these animals to meet our own needs? Not at all! Zoos allow most people their only contact with exotic animals. Most of us cannot travel to Asia, Africa, Austrailia, and so on to see these animals in their natural habitats. Still, we can marvel at them in realistic settings in zoos.Zoos are also helping to breed and preserve species, such as

Then, a teeny, tiny mouse poked its little head and bristles out of the gap and came running down towards them, and ever after they used to say: "Much outcry, little outcome."

The Mountains in Labor

One day the countrymen noticed that the mountains were in labor; smoke came out of their summits, the earth was quaking at their feet, trees were crashing, and huge rocks were tumbling. They felt sure that something horrible was going to happen. They all gathered together in one place to see what terrible thing this could be. They waited and they waited, but nothing came. At last, there was nother violent earthquake, and a huge gap appeared in the side of the mountains. They all fell down upon their knees and waited.

On Looking up by Chance at the Constellations

by Robert Frost

You'll wait a long, long time for anythin much To happen in heaven beyond the floats of cloud And the Northern Lights that run like tingling nerves. The sun and moon get crossed, but they never touch, Nor strike out fire from each other nor crash out loud. The planets seem to interfere in their curves But nothing ever happens, no harm is done. We may as well go patiently on with our life, And look elsewhere than to stars and moon and sun.

Revising for Clarity

Read question 1 first. Then read the selection and answer the question.

(1) While middle and high schools in the United States do a great job of focusing on academic subjects, many students graduate without basic life skills, such as financial literacy. (2) Learning about finance helps new graduates make critical decisions about money and avoid bad investments. (3) These classes have also been shown to be especially helpful for low-income students, who may lack financial literacy. (4) Schools should develop class about this.

Make sure you've read the text first. If you haven't, exit, and then come back. You only get one chance to answer.
