When the first European settlers came to North America, they traded with Native peoples for food and animal furs. At the beginning, both groups helped each other. Native peoples showed settlers how to grow crops and survive the weather. As time passed, more settlers arrived and wanted more land. They began pushing Native families off their land and made some work on farms or in towns. Fights and wars started between the groups. What began as friendship turned into conflict.
