Active Listening

• Empathy begins with paying attention to what the other person says.

• It means listening without interrupting or judging.
• I listen to my friends when they want to vent their feelings.

Putting Yourself in Someone Else’s Shoes

• Imagining how the other person feels or thinks.

• Helps to understand their emotions better.
• I tell my friends that I understand them because I have gone through the same situation.

Validating Emotions

• Do not minimize or deny what the other person feels.

• Saying phrases like: “I understand how hard this is for you.
• I hug my friend while acknowledging his emotion.

Supporting Without Judging

• Offering help and company without criticizing or forcing solutions.

• Support is based on understanding and acceptance.
• I stay with my friend while his emotion is intense.
