Education offer

The scientific high school is a secondary school program that offers a comprehensive education, combining a solid foundation in scientific subjects (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology) with humanities such as Italian, history, philosophy, and foreign languages, as well as Latin and technical drawing. The goal is to develop skills in both scientific and technological culture, as well as in the humanities, to provide students with a broad cultural background and open to university studies.

The high school offers four main courses, all aimed at developing scientific, logical-mathematical and linguistic skills:

Traditional Scientific High School

Scientific High School – Applied Sciences Option

The "Marco Vitruvio Pollione" Scientific High School in Avezzano, in the province of L'Aquila, is one of the mostrecognized educational institutions in Abruzzo. It was founded with the aim of providing a solid and multidisciplinary scientificeducation.

Scientific High School - Sports Specialization

LICEO SCIENTIFICO " MARCO VITRUVIO POLLIONE"

Scientific High School – Cambridge

Teaching and Innovation

Awards and Reputation

Equipped physics, chemistry, and computer science laboratories.STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) projects.English-language courses with Cambridge certifications.Participation in national science and mathematics competitions.PNRR initiatives for digital teaching and multilingualism.

In the Agnelli Foundation's Eduscopio rankings (which evaluates schools based on the university resultsof former students), Vitruvio ranks high in Abruzzo for scientific preparation. It achieved good results in the INVALSI tests, particularly in mathematics and science.High school students have excellent success rates in university and in STEM fields (Engineering, Medicine,Computer Science, etc.).

Any Critical Issues or Challenges

Like many Italian schools, it can suffer from bureaucracy or structural space limitations, although investments have been made in recent years (thanks to the National Recovery and Resilience Plan). Some students find the high study load challenging, especially in the early years. In a school with over 1,300 students, individual guidance can be more difficult to personalize, even though the high school tries to compensate with tutoring projects.

Strengths

Modern, laboratory-based teaching.Broad and flexible curriculum.Collaborations with universities and research centers.Qualified and committed faculty.Excellent reputation at the provincial and regional levels.

In addition to the core subjects, it offers subjects taught entirely in English, such as mathematics, geography, and biology. It offers international Cambridge exams.Perfect for those who want to improve their English and reach a high level.

Strongly focused on mathematics, physics, science, and philosophy. It also includes the study of Latin throughout all five years.Excellent for those intending to pursue science, engineering, or medicine.

It combines the study of science with sports and physical education. It also teaches sports law, economics, and training methodology.Ideal for those seeking careers in sports, healthcare, or education.

The institute's name pays homage to the Roman architect and theorist Marcus Vitruvius Pollio, known for hiswork De Architectura, which epitomizes the union of science, technology, and art—the same balance that the high schoolstrives to offer its students.

Elimination of Latin in favor of computer science and science lab.More technical and experimental approach.Popular among those interested in computer science, biotechnology, and engineering.
