History

First animated film: El Apóstol (1917) - Destroyed First full-length 2D film: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) First 3d film: Toy Story (1995)

Animation began with drawings. With the invention of the camera, photos opened the door to stop-motion animation, a process of animating by taking pictures repetitively and moving the subject matter slightly in each picture. Cameras allowed for animators to take pictures of their hand-drawn animations to create fluid drawing animation. Sound and color were eventually added to create deeper immersion. The rise of computers and computer animation then paved the way for computer-generated animations such as Toy Story in 1995. Increasing technology leads to better and better quality now.

Animation is widely used in entertainment industries to produce tv shows and movies. People also make animations for YouTube or personal projects. Animations go into everything including videogames, vr, movies, and tv.
