Thomas Jefferson

John Adams

You should probably reconsider your descision.

Thomas Jefferson does preach about life, liberty, and freedom, and that all men are equal, but in reality his actions go against these very beliefs due to his involvement with slavery. Jefferson owned numerous amounts of slaves because of his large plantations, and also decribed slavery as an inhumane act. Despite saying that slavery was wrong, Jefferson hardly did anything about the slaves he owned, and continued to profit off of it from slave institutions. This demonstrates Jefferson's lack of compassion for equal rights, as well as crumbling his own crediblity as he clearly cannot stay true to his word; his beliefs do not even align with his actions, so who is to say Jefferson will follow through with what he promises in his campaign?

Jeferson also believes that structuring an econmy based on agrictulture would help sustain democratic ideals and help prevent corruption, when in reality it would limit American growth, hurting it more than helping it. Thomas Jefferson wanted to create an economy based solely on independent farmers, who control their own land, while the North was industralizing as cities, banks, and factory industries grew. If Jefferson continued with the agriculture path with the hopes that it would keep corruption out of America, it would in turn greatly harm American economy. By industrializing, it allows America to participate in global commerce, and accelerates the development of the nation. Jefferson also relied heavily on slaves, contradicting his own statement for wanting independent farmers, and owned a large amount of land himself, likley influencing some of his disdain toward industrialization. It would be difficult to say that Jefferson isn't advocating for agriculture simply for himself rather than the nation.

Won the Second Presidential Election
John Adams has expereince with negotating foreign affairs considering he was a commisioner to France. Adams was the one that argued for land gains and other economic benefits for the Americas when negotiating the Treaty of Paris, and ultiamtely peace and independence, The treaty that he negoatied by being the commisioner to France ended the war, proving that though Adams prefers to stay neutral is still effecient in handling foreign affairs. It also proved that Congress could trust Adams in such a crucial moment in time.
John Adams almost entirrely wrote the Massachussets Constitution himself; the constitution was created in response to the sepreation from Britain. It was one of the earliest forms of a constitution in the Americas and highlighted a system of seperation of powers, checks and balances, an independent judiacary, and a bill rog rights, many of which is seen in the current consitution today. He laid the ground work for future American ideals, and demonstrated his skill for being able to create important legal governing documents. This proves Adams' competency when dealing with the law.
Following the Boston Massacre, the British soldiers involved in the shooting were previosuly going to be prosectued for opening fire. However, Adams believed in everyone deserving equal and fair rights when it came to trials. He upheld both his moral integrity and the rule of law, as it seemed unjust to sentence the soldiers without a trial. In addition to this, Adams was a lawyer, and was the only one that would defend the soldiers despite the animosity he would recieive. Adams won the case, proving his integrity toward the law and his passion toward serving justice where it is deserved. Even though many were against British innocnence, making the case signfiicantly harder to defend, Adams still managed to turn the case around through his thorough understanding of the law and the value he has toward upholding his morality.
Adams served as the second presidnet of America. He was aslo previosuly a vice president under George washington, demonstrating his experience with governing a nation. Under his presidency, Adams managed to avoid a full on war with the French, and at the same time maintined America as a relatively Neutral country through several acts that aligned with George Washington's ideals about neutrality. Adams also managed to expand the navy and strengthen military forces under his first presidency, strengthening American protection. Overall, John Adams has proved to be a worthy president, as shown by his previous accomplishments during his first presdiency. Not only did Adams keep America out of War, he strengthened the nation as a whole.

Neutrality in Foreign Affairs

Strong Central Government

Adams believed in a strong central government, meaning a bicameral legislature, checks and balances, and a seperation of powers. Adams believed that this was the most effective way to govern America as a weaker central governments would eventually lead to factionalism and be unable to properly address exernal threats. Taking the previous articles of confederation into consideration, and how greatly it failed, Adam plans to readress these issues in a stronger, centralized government that aims to facilitate a prominent national financial system, protectionist tariffs, and overall infrastructure.
Adams strongly believes in neutrality between any war, similar to what George Washington stood for during his presidency. In terms of the Quasi-War, Adams wanted to stay reletavily neutral without siding with the French, even though Federalists generally pushed for a more aggresive approach. Prior to the Quais War and following the XYZ Affair, Adams even sent diplomats to France to end the hostilites between the two nations.
