For a child education starts from birth. It is the process of learning and developing skills. It is how a child learns what is right and wrong, helps them to understand the world around them and helps them prepare for the future.

Family

A child’s family forms their first experiences. From their family children learn their core values and standards. For a child family are the people who love, support and care for them as they grow and develop. A strong family gives a child a sense of belonging, identity and keeps them safe from harm.

Environment

The environment in which a child finds themselves is of paramount importance to their development. Both physical and emotional environments are key for healthy child development. A child’s environment effects how they live, grow, learn and feel.

A child’s health refers to their overall physical, mental and emotional well-being. It involves anything that helps them to grow, develop and thrive. Key areas of a child’s health include: Physical Health – Growth and development, access to a GP, access to a dentist, nutrition and exercise, sleep, protection from illness, injury and harm. Mental and Emotional Health – Felling loved & secure, feeling safe, managing emotions, forming relationships, building self-esteem and confidence. Social Health – Learning how to get along with others, feeling included and supported in all environments

Child protection is part of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and is defined for the purpose of this guidance as activity that is undertaken to protect specific children who are suspected to be suffering, or likely to suffer, significant harm.
