Peppers
Tender annual vegetable requires full sun. Sturdy, attractive, upright plants are easy to grow. Great in an edible landscape. Rarely require staking or other support. Wide range of varieties: many colors, sizes, flavors - from very sweet to very hot.
Ornamental varieties are edible but fruit is usually very dry with little or no flavor. Few pest problems. Similar pests to tomatoes. Rotate with other families to prevent diseases. You can fill in space underneath pepper plants with small flowering plants or herbs. Great for containers.

Tender annual requires full sun, fertile and well-drained soil. Start indoors and transplant after threat of frost is past. Easy to grow, upright plant. Rarely needs support or staking. Wide range of cultivars: many colors, sizes, shapes, flavors. Cool temps cause slow growth and reduced fruiting.Temps over 90°F cause blossom drop. Flowering and fruiting will resume when temps cool a bit. Few pest problems in Minnesota. Time to harvest varies depending on cultivar. Calyx is often spiny. Wear gloves when harvesting.
