Moon phases: shading
You need...
Today we will draw the phases of the Moon. 1) Take your pencil and draw five circles on your white paper. Use the paper cup. 2) Now, in each circle, we show a different phase. The part with sunlight is light (white or little shadow). The part with no sunlight is dark (black). 3) Use shading with your pencil: Stippling technique 4) In the light part, we can draw some craters (small circles or shapes). 5) To make the shadows softer, you can smudge the pencil with your finger or with a piece of paper. 6) Use your black marker to go over the circle borders. Also color the dark areas with it.

On the Moon
You need...
This time, you will create a square picture called From the Moon. There is a person standing on the moon. He/She can see the Earth, the stars and some other planets. The view is awesome.
We will use wax crayons to cover different parts of the picture. Then, we take a piece of kitchen paper, press it, and move it to spread and blend the colours. We play with dark and bright colours. These light colours make some areas look brighter, like they have light.
Step by Step
Now it’s time to use the kitchen paper to spread and blend the colors
First, with a pencil, draw the moon’s surface, the person, and some circles of different sizes (the closer, the bigger.
We will repeat the same process to colour the universe. We will choose two kinds of blue and black, and then use paper to blend them.
Then, use grey and black to cover the moon.
Next, colour the Earth and the other two planets. Use different kinds of blue, and also red.
Finally, we add details. Use Tipp-Ex to make white dots to represent the stars.
Spooky portraits:Tim Burton's style
Click to learn more about Tim Burton
It is October, the month of Halloween! We will learn about Tim Burton and his special drawing style. His characters look spooky, strange and mysterious… but also cute!
- First, we will look at some examples of Tim Burton's characters and talk about what they have in common.
- Then, we will create our own character in Tim Burton style and draw a spooky portrait!
Click to lean about Tim Burton's style
What do you have to do?
Let's think about Tim Burton's style
His characters usually have big round eyes, very thin bodies and big heads. Sometimes, they have scars or stitches. He uses dark and cool colours like black, grey, blue and purple. His characters look a little spooky, weird and mysterious. We call these common characteristics “style”.
Now it is your go! Let's create a new character
- Draw the shape of the head, the neck and the shoulders.
- Decide: is your character a boy or a girl?
- Add the eyes, eyebrows, nose, mouth, hair...
Remember to follow Tim Burton’s style: big round eyes, thin body, dark colours.
- Don’t forget to add scars, stitches, wrinkles or shadows. We want it to look spooky!
- Practice as much as you need until your character looks great.
You can use ideas from the template your teacher gave you.
- Finally, give your character a name (maybe a day of the week!) and create a spooky frame around the portrait.

Exploring symmetry with SNOWFLAKES
We continue learning about symmetry. It is winter and Christmas time, so we are going to make a paper snowflake. First, we fold the paper. Then, we cut the paper carefully. We follow the steps of a video to make our snowflake. When we open the paper, we can see the symmetry- Finally, we can use our snowflake to decorate the classroom, for example the windows!

CHINESE wRITING
Chinese: what is it?
Chinese is the language of China, a big country in Asia. It is a really old language. It is more than 3,000 years old!
A very special language
In English, and in Spanish, we write with letters (a, b, c...). We put letters together to make words (Cat = gato). Each letter has a different sound. However, in Chinese this is different. They don't use letters to write words. So... what do they use to write?
Chinese symbols
Chinese uses beautiful symbols. This system is called "Hanzi" Each symbol can represent an idea. There are thousands of them! (Most people use about 2,000 to 3,000). Can you guess what these symbols mean?
Learning chinese can be fun!
How can we remember so many symbols? 🤯 It can take many years to learn chinese, but there is a fun way that can help us: we can turn the symbols into pictures.
TREE

PERSON
We draw the character like what it means. So we can remember it more easily.

Chinese lanterns
Lean to make paper lanterns
Chinese lanterns are colorful lights. People use them in festivals and celebrations. Lanterns are usually red, yellow, or orange. People hang lanterns in the streets and in their homes. They are very beautiful at night. 🌟
Drawing like Mondrian
Piet Mondrian was an abstract artist. He was born in 1872 in the Netherlands. He DID NOT paint people, landscapes, or real objects. Mondrian is famous for his paintings with squares, rectangles, and straight black lines. He used simple colors like red, blue, yellow, white, and black. He wanted to show balance and harmony with shapes and colors. His style is called De Stijl.
Drawing like Mondrian
You are going to create your own painting following his rules. First, draw straight black lines with a ruler. The lines must make right angles (90 º). Do not draw curved lines. You will create squares and rectangles in different sizes. After that, use only a few colors: red, blue, and yellow. You can also leave some parts white. Do not use many colors.
Let's get to work!
Colors can express emotions
Artists use colors to show different emotions or meanings For example: Red can remind us of passion, anger or love. Blue is linked to sadness, calmness or tranquility. Yellow can be connected to happiness and positivity. Green can express calmness, disgust, health.. It is the color of nature. Purple is sometimes connected to fear and mistery.

The four seasons
Autum (or Fall), has just started. What colors do you think represent autumn? Each season (spring, summer, autumn and winter) bring different colors to our forests. Let's think about the different color palettes for each season.
SYMMETRY
Vertical line of symmetry
What is "symmetry"?
Symmetry is when two parts of a shape, figure or object look the same. In other words, one part of a figure is a mirror image of another part.If you draw an imaginary line (or fold the shape) and both sides match, we say it has symmetry. That imaginary line is called a line of symmetry.
Horizontal line of symmetry
Diagonal line of symmetry
POINTS, LINES AND MEASURING
In art and drawing, points and lines are very important. A ruler is a useful tool, and we need to use it well, with speed and confidence. This will help our drawings improve. Points and lines look easy, but we can learn many things about them.
Vocabulary
Types of lines
SYMMETRY is everywhere!
We can see it in nature, like in leaves, flowers, or butterfly wings. We can see it in art, as in drawings and paintings. We can also find symmetry in math, objects, buildings... Many people think symmetry is beautiful because it feels balanced. That is why we like symmetrical faces.
