ABUSE HAPPENS CARD #1
Things have been tense at home and I can tell things with my husband are on the rocks again. It has been almost one year since the last time he hit me. He still yells a lot and often says things to hurt me. I hear his car coming down the driveway. He walks in the house, trips over our daughter’s toy and the next thing you know he is throwing the toys at me. I tell my children to go to their room. He's in a complete rage, breaking and throwing things everywhere. I hide in the corner of the kitchen, where he starts breaking dishes. I realize that I'm bleeding from being hit by a plate. Finally, he goes into our bedroom.

What choice should Sierra make?
FRIENDS AND FAMILY CARD #1 (If you want to talk with your elders)
MEDICAL - CARD #1 (If you want to go to the doctor)
MEDICAL CARD #1
You can’t seem to stop the bleeding, so you decide to go to the health center. In the waiting room you see a sign that says, “Domestic Violence Is Not Our Tradition.” You memorize the name and phone number on the poster. The nurse gives you three stitches. You ask her if she knows the community advocate whose name is on the poster. She says, “Yes, I know her. She’s very nice and won’t tell everyone your business.”

FRIENDS & FAMILY CARD #1
In your community, no one talks about family fighting. You remember a woman who sought help from city court after her husband hurt her, and people were angry she went off the reservation. You tell the elders you’re worried about your children seeing your husband’s anger. One elder says, “Protect your children and help him with his anger.” Another says, “You’re strong, and it’s right to protect them.” You remain unsure what to do.

BACK HOME AGAIN - CARD #1
My husband cleaned up the mess he made. He apologized to the kids and encouraged me to rest. I’m very surprised—he usually acts like nothing happened. That makes me feel even more confused.

What's Next for Sierra?
Through your choices, Sierra sought help—whether from friends, family, or a doctor. Her path has led her back home, where uncertainty and unanswered questions remain. This is where her story rests for now, a pause in her journey before the next difficult chapter unfolds.
