Literacy Updates

Start

BOY Literacy Action Steps

Students were lexiled tested (including incoming 9th grade students again) in all classes. Some scheduling changes are being considered based on reading teacher recommendations (combination of lexile test results and screenings by reading teacher). Literacy team met 2x to discuss the initiative and and plan the 9/24 PD. Professional development session held on 9/24 on transferable vocabulary strategies.

Summer 2025

October

Admin team developed a plan to launch the Level Set lexile assessment as a whole-school so that all students were testing at the same time. Our hope was that this would help reinforce that literacy is an important part of all subjects and encourage students to take the assessment seriously.

Literacy team has met 2 additional times to discuss PD. 10/14: Debrief on 9/24 PD and teacher rosters with lexiles/resources distributed 10/29: PD on Thinking Routines

What else does the data tell us?

Last year, about 25% of our students are taking 20 minutes or less on the lexile test. This year, that percentage is down to 6.4%. This could indicate that students were taking it more seriously, but students were also given more questions this year.
