LA RIPRODUZIONE
Durante la stagione adatta,gli alati lasciano la colonia madre per formare nuove colonieDurante il volo nuziale, maschi e femmine si accopiano Dopo il volo,le tremiti perdono le ali e si accoppiano per fondare una nuova colonia per diventare re e regina La regina depone le uova, che si schiudono dando vita a ninfe bianche Le ninfe si sviluppano attraverso le mute,diventando adulti che possono appartenere a diverse caste
I termitai si trovano in molte forme e misure. Alcuni uccelli fanno il nido nei termitai. I termitai assomigliano alle formiche, ma in realta' sono parenti stretti degli scarafaggi. Si ipotizza che una specie di dinosauro (Therizinosaurus) mangasse le termiti. La gigantesca termite regina puo' diporre migliaia di uova al giorno. Le larve di piroforo si rifugiano nei termitai ed emettono un bagliore di luce verde, la loro luce brillante adesca le prede
