Free Write on Homeplace
We are going to take some time to free-write about how we define homeplace and the ways we think and write about our homeplaces to different audiences.
start
In 4-6 sentences, write about where homeplace might be for you. Remember, a homeplace can be a geographical, communal, or discursive—a place you live in and are even when you are “away.”
In 3-5 sentences, write about where your homeplace is geographically located. How do you get there?
In 7-10 sentences, can you explore the significance of your homeplace to you? How does this place affect you? What thoughts or ideas come to mind when you think about your homeplace?
In 4-7 sentences, explain how you talk about your homeplace with other people (friends, family, etc.) What words do you use to describe it? What tone and context do you use to describe your homeplace and why?
In 3-5 sentences, talk about two events/ideas/questions of interest you have about your homeplace. Did something happen there that interests you? Is there a yearly event or tradition that you want to learn more about?
In 3-5 sentences, explain how you would get others invested in talking about your homeplace: How would you establish relevancy between your readers and your homeplace?
