Un mensaje para ti del Departamento de Idiomas Modernos

¡Hola Grace English!

ABRIR

Due to your achievement in Spanish classes, you are someone with strong potential to successfully complete the Modern Languages major or minor.

Based on your degree audit, we see you are pursuing a BS in medical laboratory science.

We encourage you to contact a Spanish faculty member about Spanish courses next semester and in future semesters.

Last names A-H

Your advisor is:

Dr. Julie Stephens

jstephens@ucmo.edu

We do advising by last name. If you are interested, please email the faculty member who advises students with your last name.

A major or minor in Modern Languages equips you with key skills and knowledge for a globalized, dynamic world.

While learning another language is a challenge and requires time and dedication, it is also very rewarding and has the potential to enrich and expand your personal and academic objectives.

A Modern Language major consists of 30 hours at the elementary II level (Span 1602) or above.

We see you are already a minor!

You could also double major.

You may have time to pursue two majors!

We will show you how you can complete your current ML minor and also how you could also do a double major/dual degree (BA + BS)

The first class to count in the major / minor is Span 1602 (Elementary Spanish II).

Only 8 more classes!

Under the major requirements, students take TEN courses at the 1602 level or higher. After this semester, you would only need eight courses!

I will show you how you could do a major!

So, you are already on your way!

Since you are a FRESHMAN,to complete a major, your current graduation date would likely be SPRING 2029. We'll show you a sample major plan.

Here's a sample schedule

Here is a potential plan for you to complete a major in Modern Languages.

MAJOR – 30 credits – 10 classes

After taking Span 2601, you will have 6 credits (2 classes) in Spanish. You only need 24 more credits (8 classes)

How to complete the major

How to complete the minor

Take one Spanish class each semester AND participate in the summer 2026 study tour to Spain (tentatively planned pending full enrollment) OR, without the study tour, take two Spanish classes one semester.

Take one Spanish class each semester through fall 27 or spring 28. Participation in the Spain study tour would allow you to complete the minor in the fall of 27.

The Spain study tour is optional. If you do not participate, you can finish by adding one course to your major / minor plan.

Other considerations to note

A semester abroad would give you 12 credits in a single semester, significantly accelerating your progress toward graduation.

Study abroad also provides invaluable experiences that add to your personal and academic successes.

Congratulations Grace English and best wishes for your continued academic success!

Best regards,

The Modern Languages Faculty

¡Hasta pronto!
