Definition

It is the most important verb in English.

In its definition, it is to be/to exist. It is a verb that does not require auxiliaries and has verbal tenses and dramatic structures that will help you express what you want to communicate. It is fundamental in English and is considered the backbone of the language.

Grammatical Structures

Its structure for affirming, negating, and questioning is unique and does not require the auxiliary “do” or ‘does’ in the present simple tense, nor “did” in the past simple tense.

Form Structure Example Affirmative: Sujeto + Verbo to be + Complemento She is tall. (Ella es alta). Negative: Sujeto + Verbo to be + not + Complemento She is not tall. (Ella no es alta). Interrogative: Verbo to be + Sujeto + Complemento + ? Is she tall? (¿Es ella alta?).

Present Simple

Past Simple
