They had foot soldiers but more money. They got stronger and were called IRONSIDES
They had a more experienced army but no money
He followed a mercantilist policy and reorganised the Navy. He defeated the Dutch and the Spanish (and so opening trade with the Carribean)

Domestic policies: taxes were high because of wars - his reforms were too oppressive
Cromwell dies but his son was too weak so the army restored the Houses of the Parliament and called Charles II back from his exile.
Without the Church and the Crown there was an explosion of extremist ideas. Cromwell was a military dictator and a Puritan
