Symbole de la cité et de sa puissance. Même si c’est un lieu religieux, il rappelle que la démocratie athénienne était aussi liée à la religion civique et au prestige de la cité.

Utilisée lors des grandes processions civiques et religieuses (fêtes des Panathénées). C’était un moment où les citoyens se rassemblaient, renforçant leur identité commune.
